The power of interpersonal skills
don’t take it personally it’s just business
But it has to be personal to do the Lord’s work.
Jesus was personally crucified for each one of us
Don’t be a Christian robot. Be a personable human and get to know the person you are talking to.
How we act has everything to do with who we are and what we have experienced.
Tension points. We have to stand on certain ideals even if they are debated. Love the soul not the act.
Pursuit of peace
Heard don’t burn any bridges. Do you know any people that have burnt a bridge at work, home, or church?
We need a watch our tack with how we interact. Jesus was kind peaceful and truthful.
We can’t speak hate and promote love. Only love nurtures love.
Start with the soft skills
Speak the truth.
Example of Jesus
He don’t compromise the message
He went to people were they were
He practiced forgiveness and preached repentance.
He encouraged
He was confident in the message.
He used wisdom
He confronted the naysayers

Looking at John Chapter 7.

33 Jesus then said, “I will be with you a little longer, and then I am going to him who sent me. 34 You will seek me and you will not find me. Where I am you cannot come.”

We need to be teaching and preparing our children and grandchildren to be leaders.
"Our present leaders will not always be present"
1. Accept - We have to accept the mortality of our leaders and ourselves. But the lord's work continues.
Joshua - Moses prepared Joshua to lead.
2 Kings - Elijah prepared Elisha
2. Avail - We have to avail ourselves to the present opportunities.
John 12 - 35 So Jesus said to them, “The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. 36 While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.”
Use it or loose it. Take advantage of what is available to you.
Exodus 33 - 11 Thus the Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. When Moses turned again into the camp, his assistant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, would not depart from the tent.
3. Admonish - "to put in mind" - We have to be deliberate on what we put in the minds of our young people.
We need to gradually teach. As the audience grows so does the lesson. Look at John 16, Jesus does this with his apostles.
We need to warn of possible dangers.
We need to find those who aspire to be a church leader.
4. Aspire - We need to aspire for better.
We need to have faith in God's word.
We need to set goals.
We need to strive for EMI, (every member involved).

Why People Came To Jesus  -  John 20: 30-31
Why did people come to see Jesus? Was he the Son of God? Was he proving himself to be the Son of God?
There are 4 different groups that came to seek out Jesus and Jesus responded:
Studious – Learned
Ch 3 Nicodemus comes to address Jesus as Rabbi/Teacher
The teacher comes to the Teacher
V3 – notice Jesus’ declaration, there is no introduction to Nicodemus; no “hello” etc.
V4 – Question from Nicodemus
V5 – Explanation by Jesus
V8 – an illustration to help Nicodemus understand
V9-21 – application – Not being born a Jew but being born again. With application Jesus gave Nicodemus hope with the example of old testament Moses.
Application for us: are there not individuals who are extremely studious and want to know what the Bible says? There are people today, esp Gen Z who want to study to prove themselves right with God. Are we ready to help these folks? Can you give answers with gentleness and respect? Are we content to give same ol stale stuff from years past? Are we relevant to the times in society? Jesus gave Nicodemus, the studious, hope. Do we have a “good news” message for this studious generation or are we “Christian Bullies”?

Sinful – the lost
John 4:4 ex the Samaritan woman
Jesus went to her first. He did not have to go thru Samaria on the route to where he was headed but chose to. He met the woman at the well.
V16 Jesus interacted with his woman, implied her life was not as it should be
V25---V26 I am He
V29 Come and see ----- they come to him
Jesus interacted with her by offering her living water, hope
Lk 15:1-2 the sinful came. What do we offer the sinful? Do we offer them hope, grace? Or do we offer judgment?
Comments like “I already feel bad about myself shy would I want to go to church?” should hurt our hearts
Are we such that we embrace the sinful, not in acceptance of lifestyle/sin, but in a way that graciously leads them to change. It is our God given mission to have a heart to reach out to the sinful. Luke 17:1-3

The Suffering
Ch 5, Luke 7:21-23
Matt 25
Everywhere we look there are those whose lives are broken. Are they coming to us? Are we going to them?

The Subverters – they came to undermine His authority
Ch 7 and Ch 11-18
The Pharisees – disconnected from Jesus and an explicit effort was made by them to see to his execution
They subverted his message Lk 5:30, 6:2-7
They first complained about all that He did
Asked him to explain himself/questioned Him
Then watched to see if they could trip Him up
THEY ARE STILL OUT THERE
Jesus ignored them – He did not extend hope them
Be alert and ready. Recognize those who are trying to subvert Christ and His message
Phil 2:15
Gal 5- partyism – Division in society as well as the church

Respond as Jesus did. You and I will never invest in people’s destiny until we invest in their humanity.

The Life Which I Now Have By Faith
Gal 2:20
Necessity of Faith
Faith is mandatory and it is Intentional
Intentional Faith
-be deliberate, purposeful
-Heb 11:6 be intentional in what you believe, consistent
-Allow someone else to see your faith through your trust, dependence, confidence, and reliance on Christ
-Without these things you cannot have faith
-The purpose of the bk of John – Jn 20:24, 28 ***
* V29 – Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believed”
*V31 – these are written that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ.
-Persevere in faith without doubt
-Do you truly believe what God in Christ did for you?
-You read God’s word and question what it says but often will immediately believe what you hear/see online.

Deliberate Faith
-Seek him deliberately with all diligence
-What does it mean to seek diligently? We all need help in seeking – Bible study, Bible class, workshops, retreats.
- We need fellowship, deliberate attendance and interaction with other believers. Gal 2:20 We cannot matriculate through the Christian life alone.

Abundant Faith
-John 6: 35 When we are seeking we should hunger and thirst for righteousness
-8:12 Light of the world, you cannot compromise on your interaction with the darkness; you must walk as children of light.
-There will be opposition
-10:7 He is the door, the only door, the only way in which we enter
-10:11 He is the shepherd
-11:25 Salvation is only thru Christ

Being “In Christ” understand the benefits
Romans 8:1
Ephesians 1:3-7
No one can earn their salvation, we gain our salvation IN Christ and our faith, trust, and obedience in Him
2 Peter 3:9

John the Perspective: Grasping John’s Gospel
-How he (John) viewed Christ as he penned the gospel.
John 1: 14
Son of God: reference to Christ is used 10+ times in the Gospel of John. More than any other gospel.
We often miss the significance of that term. Psalm 8:4 (He drew parallelism: same truth stated twice but with a little bit of change)
Affirmation of Christ’s deity.
Son of God = Nature of God
3 Major Ideas from the Prologue of John
God’s son among men
Eternity of Christ – paramount importance that you understand Christ has always “been” – he wasn’t “created” in Mary.
John 1: 1-3  Micah 5:2 > Christ is not a “created” being, he is from “everlasting”
John 1:4-5 Before Abraham
John 17:5 I AM
Hostility our Lord Met
John 1:4-5, 10-11, 3:19-21, 5:18, 7:1,19,20,25 , 8:41,48,52
Matt 10:34
Hostility increases after the raising of Lazarus Chapters 11 and 12 of John
John 1:14 Authenticity of Christ
By his signs
2:11 reveals his glory
Acts 2:22
2:23 very public
7:31 numerous
11: 45, 47 undeniability
By his sayings
7:37-38, 46
4:39-42
8:28-32
